Steiff 28 PB 1904 Replica 403521
Jointed bears were the concept of Richard Steiff. His designs turned the bears from all fours to upright with jointed limbs – and thus the teddy bear as we all know him was born.
He originally used string and discs to hold the bears together, but then designed metal rods which were very successful. The original rod jointed bears are now much sought after.
Richard’s favourite choice for his bears was a golden mohair, but a few were made in white mohair and have become very rare.
Bear 28 PB is a reproduction of a beautiful white mohair bear from 1904. True to the original, he has rod joints with large black boot button eyes, a horizontal seam from ear to ear, a sealing wax nose, pink stitched mouth and five black stitched claws.
He has an authentic elephant ‘Button in Ear’ and truly encapsulates all those early characteristics. He is proud to represent and celebrate one of the earliest surviving designs of Richard Steiff. He is an absolutely beautiful collectors piece.
